TRAVEL ADVICE

Entry Requirements
Passport Validity
Ensure your U.S. passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned date of departure from Scotland.

Visa Requirements
For U.S. citizens traveling to the UK for short visits, tourism, or business, an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is required starting January 8, 2025, if they don't have a UK visa or legal residency.

If you plan on traveling in Europe before or after the trip please note that starting from mid-2025, the European Union may implement the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS), an online travel authorization required for visa-exempt nationals, including U.S. citizens.

Financial Tips
Currency
The pound sterling (£), abbreviated as GBP, is the official currency of Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom. If you plan to travel elsewhere in Europe, please check the local currency, as the euro (EUR) is used in many EU countries.
Using ATMs
Withdrawing cash from ATMs often provides favorable exchange rates. ATMs are commonly found at airports, city centers, and near banks. Using ATMs at the airport upon arrival can be convenient.
Bank Notifications
Inform your bank and credit card companies of your travel plans to prevent any security holds on your accounts.
PIN Numbers
Ensure you know the PIN numbers for your debit and credit cards, as European payment terminals often require them for transactions.
Payment Methods
Credit cards and contactless payments are widely accepted throughout Scotland.

Travel Insurance
Please consider purchasing travel insurance when booking your trip. It’s an easy way to protect your trip in case of unexpected changes or delays.

Cell Phone & Internet Connection
Wi-Fi will be available at the venue. If you plan to use cellular data, you can arrange international service through your current wireless provider—just be sure to review coverage and pricing details before purchasing a plan.

There are also several eSIM options that offer data-only or data-and-calling packages while in the UK. If you prefer not to go through your personal provider, services like airalo are a convenient alternative.

Packing electronics & appliances
Scotland and the UK use Type G electrical outlets and operate on a different voltage than the U.S. Please remember to pack a plug adapter, and be sure to check that your appliances are dual voltage. Most phone and computer chargers are dual voltage, but items like hair dryers, curling irons, and clothing steamers are often single voltage, so it’s best to double-check before traveling.

Hair dryers will be provided in your accommodations.
